How it all began - a brief history
It was the love of motor sport that started the success story for the family run business in Weil am Rhein, southern Baden Germany. Eckart Wössner raced motorcycles, up to 500cc, during the 1970's and enjoyed a degree of success on the national circuit where he was well known as a totally committed, but fair, sportsman.
Between 1984 and 1995, Wössner pistons were the sole distributor in Germany for an American piston manufacturer, but In 1994, Eckart Wössner began producing his own range of high performance pistons under the Wössner pistons brand name. Their motto - "Our customers success is the root of our success" - is what has made Wössner GmbH the European experts for high performance pistons.
The continuing successful development of the company required a new premises for 2003 and eventually, a new base was created in a state of the art machine shop in southern Germany (four times the size of the previous one).
Innovation, Research and Development
Their enthusiasm for innovation is based upon the belief that it is only possible to discover something new when you constantly question that which you already know. This is one of the reasons why they are actively involved in researching the properties of low friction surfaces and in developing new such materials. They are in close contact with the research departments at various colleges and universities and are currently carrying out a series of tests, together with a Swiss institution, into friction reduction. In close cooperation with the R&D departments at leading motor manufacturers they also currently develop high performance prototype pistons for likes of BMW and Porsche.
Newest Technology in the Production Facility
In order to guarantee the highest quality their production machines have been specially customised to meet their requirements and are constantly being further developed – the close co-operation between their engineers and manufactures is highly beneficial to both parties. In order to guarantee the precision and consistency of the end product, their CNC machines are housed in an air conditioned environment. Their expertise enables them to produce one-off pistons to individual specifications – even designs with extremely complicated ovality.
Motor Manufacturers, Rebuilding and Development
For many years now they have been in close contact with the development departments of leading motor manufacturers. In co-operation with their engine specialists they develop and build new piston models as well as putting together prototypes for test runs. Next to their technical expertise their biggest strength is the un-bureaucratic and flexible manner in which they fulfill the needs their customers.

Engine and Classic Car Enthusiasts
They have been able to grant many vintage cars a new lease of life. They are able to produce pistons that are no longer manufactured anywhere else. Having been completely overhauled there is now a 1930’s Rolls Royce that runs with Wossner pistons, as does a 1952 Maybach diesel Locomotive.
